ACMI

This guide to ACMI in Melbourne opens on a September night in 2009, when Cate Blanchett lent her own Academy Award to a struggling young museum for an exhibition called Screen Worlds. It follows the building back to its underfunded 2002 opening inside Federation Square and the director who quit within two years, unsure the city even wanted a museum devoted to film, television and games. Screen Worlds itself went on to fill these halls with costumes, consoles and cameras for a full decade.
