Stadtpark

This guide to Stadtpark in Vienna follows the decades it took the city to honor Johann Strauss II after his death in 1899, from a memorial committee funding itself through concerts to a project derailed by the First World War. The city council eventually stepped in where the committee had stalled, and the monument was finally unveiled in 1921 with the Vienna Philharmonic playing his own music as the cover came off.
