Burggarten

This guide follows the marble Mozart memorial in Vienna's Burggarten, tracing sculptor Viktor Tilgner's race to finish it before his death in 1896 and the statue's original spot near the imperial palace. It follows the damage the monument suffered in the final days of World War Two and the restoration that brought it here in 1953. Look for the flower bed and carved reliefs at its base as you listen.
