Salzburg Carillon

This guide to the Salzburg Carillon follows court clockmaker Jeremias Sauter around 1702, tasked with encoding melodies directly into brass for a set of thirty-five bells shipped overland from an Antwerp bell founder. You'll hear how he drilled thousands of tiny holes into plates wrapped around a wide cylinder, knowing a single misplaced hole would ring a sour note over the whole city. It also traces the bells' own long wait, bought around 1695 and left silent for years because nobody in Salzburg knew how to run a carillon at all.
