Bến Bạch Đằng

This guide to Ben Bach Dang in Ho Chi Minh City follows one riverside pedestal through three different statues in less than a century. It opens with a French admiral unveiled here in 1879, pulled down and melted by crowds during the 1945 August Revolution, then traces the Trung sisters monument that Madame Nhu erected in 1962 and that a coup-era crowd tore down in 1963.
