Huyen Khong Cave

This guide to Huyen Khong Cave near Da Nang follows a guerrilla fighter named Phan Hiep, who led his unit against an American post below these cliffs on August 23, 1968, then climbed up into the cave and stayed. It traces the cave's earlier use hiding fighters against the French, its turn as a field hospital hollowed into marble, and the statue carved here in 1960 by Nguyen Chat beneath five natural skylights. It also covers older marks on the walls, a stone stele dated 1640 and a shrine from 1825.
