Hawk Hill

This guide to Hawk Hill in San Francisco starts with the concrete gun battery buried here in 1942, built to fire on enemy ships and abandoned before it was finished as coastal artillery became obsolete. It follows the site's second life in the 1950s as a Nike missile radar station tracking Soviet bombers, shut down in 1971.
