African American Museum in Philadelphia

This guide to the African American Museum in Philadelphia follows Jack Franklin, a Philadelphia photojournalist who spent over fifty years photographing Black community life, learning the trade in the Army Signal Corps and later freelancing for the Philadelphia Tribune, Jet and Ebony. It traces him into churches, jazz clubs and protest marches, including the March on Washington in 1963 and the Selma to Montgomery marches two years later, often unpaid for the trip. His family, meanwhile, had to chase down clients just to collect his fees while he was already off after the next story.
