About this audio guide
This guide to the Carl Van Vechten Gallery and Aaron Douglas Gallery at Fisk University in Nashville follows two acts of devotion nearly two decades apart. It traces Georgia O'Keeffe's nineteen forty-nine gift of pieces from her late husband Alfred Stieglitz's collection to a Black university in the segregated South, and Aaron Douglas's murals painted here starting in nineteen thirty. Best heard walking slowly between the two rooms, so the paintings and the murals sit side by side in your mind.
