Rubell Museum

This guide to the Rubell Museum traces two Miami brothers: Steve, a doorman at Studio 54 in New York who was arrested for tax evasion and died of AIDS in nineteen eighty-nine at forty-five, and Don, who spent years buying contemporary art with his wife Mera on a teacher's salary. It follows the inheritance Steve left behind, and how the Rubells opened their collection to the public in nineteen ninety-three in a Wynwood warehouse that once processed drugs seized by the DEA. That neighborhood slowly turned into one of the country's great arts districts.
