Monkey Jungle

This guide to Monkey Jungle in Miami follows animal behaviorist Joseph DuMond, who released six Java monkeys into the scrubby forest south of Miami in 1933 with no grant and no zoo, only a dream of studying primates in the wild. When those territorial monkeys started biting visitors, DuMond flipped the whole idea of a zoo inside out, building narrow screened walkways so people, not monkeys, would be caged.
