Angels Flight Railway

Angels Flight, the two-block funicular that has carried downtown Los Angeles workers up a steep hill since 1901, opens with the runaway crash of February 2001, when one of its twin cars came down the track with no brakes and struck the other, killing a rider. From there it traces the railway's odd life, torn down in 1969 and boxed up for decades before returning to service, only to keep running into trouble. It's a history of a tiny railway that refuses to stay shut down for long.
