About this audio guide
This guide to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas opens nine days before the building's first real hockey game, when a mass shooting at a nearby music festival left the brand-new Golden Knights franchise deciding what kind of opening night to hold at all. You'll hear how the celebration was scrapped and rebuilt around the words Vegas Strong, and how defenseman Deryk Engelland came to speak from center ice on October 10, 2017, before fifty-eight seconds of silence and the drop of the first puck. Listen from the lower bowl, where the guide notes the scoreboard still hangs exactly where it did that night.
