The Stones of Life

This guide to the Stones of Life on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu traces four boulders that construction crews buried under a bowling alley in 1941 rather than move. It goes back to the legend of Kapaemahu and three fellow healers who sailed from Tahiti, poured their power into the stones during a month of prayer, and vanished. For decades before the bowling alley, locals draped the stones in lei, and a princess is said to have prayed here before wading into the surf.
