Sunset Beach Park

This guide to Sunset Beach Park on Oahu's North Shore centers on December 22, 1943, when surfers Woody Brown and seventeen-year-old Dickie Cross paddled out into a swell they expected to be survivable, only to watch the waves keep climbing as a rip current pinned them outside the break. Unable to get back through the channel, they made a desperate call to paddle nearly three miles down the coast toward Waimea Bay as dusk approached.
