Iolani Palace

This guide to Iolani Palace in Honolulu returns to January 1895, when soldiers climbed the stairs and locked Queen Liliuokalani, the deposed last monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom, into an upstairs bedroom after a failed uprising by her supporters. It follows her trial in her own former throne room, the sentence handed down by a military tribunal, and the quilt she and her companions stitched together during her confinement. Look up at the palace's upper floor toward the room where that quilt still hangs.
