Hawaii State Capitol

When the Hawaii State Capitol opened in March 1969, its architects wrapped the whole building in a reflecting pool meant to stand for the Pacific Ocean, with volcano-shaped chambers, palm-trunk columns, and no dome so the open sky itself could serve as the capitol's ceiling.
