About this audio guide
This guide to the Stevie Ray Vaughan Statue on Austin's Auditorium Shores turns on the guitar cast in the bluesman's bronze hands. It follows his guitar technician René Martinez and a discovery about how electric pickups actually work, one that pushed Vaughan toward unusually heavy strings and a demanding nightly ritual to keep playing them. You'll hear what that ritual cost him, night after night, long before any headline event. Stand close to the statue's right hand before you move on.
