The Wren's Nest

This guide to the Wren's Nest in Atlanta follows Joel Chandler Harris, whose 1880 book Uncle Remus made him rich and famous for folktales that were never really his. It traces back to Turnwold plantation in the 1860s, where two enslaved men, Old Harbert and George Terrell, told him the Br'er Rabbit stories he later credited to a fictional narrator. Look for the mailbox by the walk outside, where wrens once nested and gave the house its name.
