This guide to the Lloyd and Mary Ann Whitaker Cyclorama Building in Atlanta opens in 1883, when Milwaukee promoter William Wehner brought thirteen German painters across the Atlantic to found the American Panorama Company and stake everything on a giant painting of the Battle of Atlanta. It follows the venture's collapse under supervisors Friedrich Heine and August Lohr, and the painting's strange path through an Indianapolis exhibitor and a Georgia showman before it resold in Atlanta for eleven hundred ten dollars, a price one historian later called a song.
