East Africa Slave Trade Exhibition (Slave Chambers - Cathedoral Church Of Christ)

This guide to the slave chambers beneath Zanzibar City's Cathedral Church of Christ starts at the whipping post that once stood where the altar now sits, on the floor of what was East Africa's largest slave market. It follows Bishop Edward Steere's decision to build the cathedral directly over that spot in 1873, and takes you down into the older stone holding rooms where traders packed dozens of people at a time.
