Gümbet Sahil

This guide to Gümbet Beach near Bodrum starts with the name itself — Turkish gümbet, borrowed through Persian for a domed shrine tomb — and the domed structure the cove was named for but no longer shows any trace of. It traces how a quiet fishing village three kilometers from Bodrum's old port became, from the 1960s on, the town's overflow beach.
