Princess Mother Memorial Park

This guide to the Princess Mother Memorial Park in Khlong San, Bangkok tells the story of Sangwan, orphaned at nine in Nonthaburi, who trained as a nurse and became mother to two Thai kings after marrying Prince Mahidol. Left a widow at twenty-nine, she returned to public life decades later, flying by helicopter into Thailand's remote northern mountains to reach hill-tribe villages no doctor had visited.
