General Post Office

This guide to Bangkok's General Post Office starts on 24 June 1940, exactly eight years after the People's Party ended Siam's absolute monarchy in a bloodless coup. It follows why the new government chose the former British Legation grounds to build here, and how architects Sarot Sukkhayang and Mew Aphaiwong turned a post office into a political statement, crowned with a giant Garuda.
