The Fullerton Hotel Singapore

This guide to The Fullerton Hotel Singapore traces the building's earlier life as the colony's General Post Office, opened in 1928 by Governor Sir Hugh Clifford, its curved counter and underground mail tunnel once linking Singapore to steamships bound for England and China. It follows the building into February 1942, when the sorting halls became a makeshift hospital for wounded soldiers and Governor Sir Shenton Thomas sheltered inside as Government House fell unsafe. Architect Major P H Keys's neoclassical facade, with its Doric pillars, still frames the entrance today.
