Armenian Apostolic Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator

This guide to the Armenian Apostolic Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator in Singapore tells the story of the small congregation that built the city's oldest surviving church in 1836, when the Armenian community numbered only thirty-four people. It follows the Sarkies brothers who opened Raffles Hotel, Catchick Moses who founded The Straits Times, and Agnes Joaquim, buried in the memorial garden behind the church. Walk through that garden and you can still find the headstones of the Sarkies and Joaquim families among them.
