Stockholm Medieval Museum

This guide walks through the Stockholm Medieval Museum's excavated graveyard, where archaeologists digging for a parliament car park in 1978 uncovered nearly 1,350 skeletons beneath the site of Helgeandshuset, a hospice first recorded in 1301. It follows the medieval bargain that put them there: wealthy burghers gave land and goods to the brotherhood that ran the hospice, and the poor were buried in its consecrated ground in exchange for prayers said over the donors' souls.
