Sela

This guide to Sela in Medina follows the rocky hill where the Prophet Muhammad pitched his tent as thousands of hands dug a defensive trench across the plain below, six days of work ahead of an approaching coalition army in the fifth year after the Hijrah. From this summit he could watch the line his outnumbered followers, Ansar and Muhajirun together, carried from Ratij toward Dhubab, while cavalry that had broken Muslim ranks at Uhud two years earlier waited on the far side. Small mosques were later built into this same slope, Masjid al-Fath among them.
