Jabal Ayr

This guide to Jabal Ayr in Medina follows the black basalt ridge locals still call the mountain that hates, paired against Uhud, the mountain that loves, and a widely repeated saying crediting the Prophet Muhammad with the grim nickname. It traces how scholars have found little basis for that story, yet it survived for fourteen centuries anyway, alongside the ridge's real role marking the southern edge of Medina's sacred zone since the Prophet's arrival in the city in 622.
