Zamzam Well

This guide to the Zamzam Well in Mecca begins with Hagar, the wife of the Prophet Ibrahim, left alone in a desert valley with her infant son Ismail and no water in sight. When her goatskin ran dry, she ran between two low hills, Safa and Marwa, scanning the horizon on each pass for any sign of help. The guide follows her search through its seventh and final crossing, and carries the story forward to Abd al-Muttalib, the Prophet Muhammad's grandfather, who would rediscover this same source generations later after a dream.
