Masjid Al Nimrah

This guide to Masjid Al Nimrah, just outside Mecca's sacred plain, follows the Prophet Muhammad's one and only pilgrimage on the ninth of Dhul Hijjah in the year six hundred thirty-two, when he rode into this valley on his she-camel al-Qaswa before more than one hundred thousand companions. It traces the scale of that afternoon, unaided by any amplification, and what he began telling the crowd about sacred lives, equality and an old debt from before Islam. It also follows the mosque itself, built two centuries later by the Abbasids, and the line pilgrims must still respect where its grounds meet Arafat's boundary.
