Farmer's market "Zeleni venac"

This guide to Zeleni Venac market in Belgrade follows Sophia Hermann, a young widow from Saxony who opened a tavern on this slope around 1840 and had to choose what to hang over its door. It reaches back to the fortress trench and duck pond that once filled this hollow, and forward to the 1926 market locals crowned the Queen of the markets. Best heard standing under the broken roofs above the stalls.
