Dorćol

This guide to Dorćol in Belgrade stops at a small bronze boy on Dobračina Street and the plain public tap that once stood beneath him. It goes back to a hot June day in eighteen sixty-two, when Ottoman soldiers and a young Serbian apprentice named Sava Petković stood in the same slow queue for water. It also follows the long, stop-start making of the monument itself, and the tobacco merchant who paid for it. Best heard standing by the pool at the corner of Dobračina and Gospodar Jevremova.
