Inland Sea

This guide to the Inland Sea in Doha follows Jasim bin Jabir, a Gulf pirate of the 1830s known as Raqraqi, who made this shallow, salt-crusted inlet his hideout by sailing warships through water that grounded British frigates and rival dhows. You'll hear how he raided merchant ships and moved stolen cargo out by camel caravan, and how the ruler of Abu Dhabi eventually came for him with British backing. The story follows bin Jabir north to Doha, where local leaders sheltered him despite direct warnings from the British.
