Film City
Abandoned film-set village of mud-brick houses and minarets deep in the western desert dunes.
Film City, deep in the dunes of Qatar's Zekreet Peninsula, is an entire mud-brick village of houses, a mosque and open courtyards, built purely as a set for an Arabic television series, Eyaal Al Theeb, and never lived in. The guide follows how carpenters raised real walls and minarets for a fictional Bedouin town, and how wind and sand have been reshaping the abandoned set ever since. It also traces the drivers and photographers who now treat the surrounding dunes as their own playground. Getting here, over sand tracks off the Dukhan Highway, is part of the visit.
