Caves Ferreira

This guide to Caves Ferreira in Vila Nova de Gaia, across the river from Porto, follows the life of Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, a young widow who rebuilt a ruined port house in the 1850s, survived a fatal boating accident on the Douro's rapids in 1861, and went on to fight off the vine blight that devastated Europe's vineyards.
