Saxon Garden

This guide to the Saxon Garden in Warsaw opens in December nineteen forty-four, as German demolition squads move through the grounds with wire and dynamite toward the Saxon Palace, on Hitler's orders to erase Warsaw block by block after the Uprising was crushed. It follows the palace's destruction and one stubborn stone arcade sheltering a soldier's tomb, blown a second time on the twenty-ninth to bury it under rubble. The garden itself opened to the public back in seventeen twenty-seven, decades before Europe's grand parks followed.
