Jesuit church

This guide to the Jesuit church on Świętojańska Street in Warsaw follows a painted image of Mary holding two broken arrows, copied around 1650 from a vision reported a century earlier in Faenza, Italy. It traces how the image was carried into the church in 1651 with its own new feast day, and the vow city councillors made the following year as plague swept through Warsaw. Look for the broken arrows in the painted hands above the altar.
