Freta

This guide to a townhouse on Freta Street in Warsaw's New Town centers on Maria Skłodowska-Curie, born here in 1867 above her mother's boarding school, and on the building's deliberate destruction during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. It follows the bronze birthplace plaque that survived the blast buried in rubble, and the stone-by-stone postwar rebuilding that put it back on the wall between 1951 and 1954.
