De Poezenboot

This guide to De Poezenboot in Amsterdam follows Henriette van Weelde, who in 1966 brought a mother cat and her kittens in from the rain at her window on the Herengracht and found she couldn't stop taking in strays after that. You'll hear how she looked out at her neighbors' houseboats and decided cats could live afloat too, and what the sanctuary she bought in 1968 grew into over the following decades. Today around two hundred and fifty cats pass through here each year, cared for by volunteers who started out much the same way she did.
