De Gooyer Windmill

This guide to De Gooyer Windmill in Amsterdam opens in 1811, when Napoleon's troops garrisoned the city and built barracks directly upwind of a centuries-old mill, cutting off its wind within months. It follows the city's choice between demolishing the mill and finding another way to save it, then jumps ahead through the mill's working life on the Funenkade, including the neighbours who leaned on it during the World War Two blackout.
