Sri Aruloli Thirumurugan Temple

This guide to the Sri Aruloli Thirumurugan Temple on Penang Hill follows the Tamil sedan chair carriers and Indian sepoys who hauled British planters up the jungle track before the funicular railway existed, and the small shrine to Murugan they built for themselves sometime in the 1800s near a lookout the British called Gun Hill. It traces how that modest structure grew, gate tower by gate tower, into the ornate Dravidian temple standing at the summit today.
