St. Augustine's Church

This guide to St. Augustine's Church in Macau opens in seventeen seventeen, when the Spanish Augustinian friars who had run the church for over a century were suddenly expelled to Goa, and a famine took hold soon after. It reaches back to fifteen eighty-six, when friars newly arrived from the Philippines founded a brotherhood built around a single Lenten ritual, and to the church raised five years later to house it. Along the way it follows the procession's route between this church and the Cathedral, and the neoclassical facade added to the building centuries afterward.
