Macau Museum of Art

This guide to the Macau Museum of Art follows George Chinnery, an English painter who arrived in 1825 fleeing debts he'd piled up over two decades in India and meant only to pass through. It follows him through the streets of Macau over the next twenty-seven years, sketchbook in hand, painting merchants, sea captains and the Tanka boatwomen of the Pearl River. The museum, opened in 1999, holds the collection of oils, watercolors and quick sketches that resulted, and the guide points you toward his grave a short walk away in the Old Protestant Cemetery.
