Matisse Art Gallery

This guide to the Matisse Art Gallery in Marrakesh opens in 1999, when Nabil El Mellouki and Youssef Falaki took a small space in a Gueliz passage to show living Moroccan artists who had nowhere serious to exhibit. It follows why they borrowed the name of the French painter famous for his bold color, and the painters who found their first real walls here, among them Farid Belkahia, Mahi Binebine and Hassan El Glaoui. Look for the passage entrance itself, tucked off the busier street, where the gallery still gives one artist the whole room for a rotating solo show.
