Peace Pagoda

This guide to the Peace Pagoda in Hiroshima traces its origins to August 1966, when volunteers hauled tens of thousands of stones up Mount Futaba for a monument built under the Buddhist monk Nichidatsu Fujii, who met Gandhi in 1931 and founded the Nipponzan Myohoji order. It follows the relics sealed inside the dome, gifts from India, Mongolia and what was then Ceylon, strangers bound together under one roof.
