Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park Rest House

This guide to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park Rest House opens at eight-fifteen on the morning of August 6, 1945, inside a building that had been a modern kimono shop and by then served as a wartime fuel-rationing office, with thirty-seven people at work inside. It follows one of them, a clerk named Eizo Nomura, through that morning while almost everyone else in the building did not make it out. You can register at the desk today and walk down into the basement level, left much as it was found, one of the only interior spaces in Hiroshima still holding that morning's mark.
