Nakasu

This guide to Nakasu in Fukuoka traces the entertainment island back to 1600, when a local lord's two new bridges turned a river sandbar into a proper island filled within two centuries by ryotei restaurants and their resident geigi performers. It follows the geigi tradition through its peak of more than two thousand performers down to today's single office, the Hakata Kenban, which represents just fifteen.
