Tempietto del Bramante

This guide to the Tempietto del Bramante in Rome opens in 1492, when Spain took Granada and Columbus reached the Americas, and follows Ferdinand and Isabella's decision a decade later to mark those victories on the hillside believed to be where Peter was crucified. It traces Bramante's tiny circular chapel, so precise that Palladio later ranked it beside ancient Rome's monuments, and the crypt below holding a hollow said to have cradled Peter's cross.
