ISKCON Chowpatty (Sri Sri Radha Gopinath Mandir)

This guide to ISKCON Chowpatty in Mumbai follows Richard Slavin, a nineteen-year-old from a Chicago suburb who hitchhiked through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan in 1970 and ended up at a Hare Krishna gathering here. There he met A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Bengali teacher who had carried Krishna devotion to the West, and the meeting reshaped his life. The guide follows him back to Mumbai in 1986, starting over in a single room at a nearby orphanage.
